Havana Brown is the ultimate pop chameleon.

A globally successful DJ, producer and performer, the Melbourne-born artist has already amassed a string of multi-platinum singles, achieving 4 x Number One US Billboard Club Dance Hits(including the million-selling ‘We Run The Night’), as well as an ARIA Top Ten debut album (‘Flashing Lights’).

In 2015, Havana Brown is back, bolder than ever, with the release of her new single ‘Battle Cry’ (featuring Bebe Rexha and Savi), and this time, the LA-based Australian performer has changed gear and ventured into the Wild West.

Havana’s newfound obsession with classic cowboy movies and the Californian desert led her to write ‘Battle Cry’, which she says, “lyrically the song uses so many metaphors that lend themselves to the Western flavor, something I’ve always wanted to try and incorporate into a song.”

Havana co-wrote the single with DJ and producer Savi and acclaimed artist Bebe Rexha (who co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s ‘The Monster’ and features as a vocalist on David Guetta’s ‘Hey Mama’ and ‘Take Me Home’ by Cash Cash). Havana says, “Bebe is not only a great writer, but also an incredible singer. She’s wild, just like me!”

Of her exciting new direction, Havana explains, “It’s definitely not a club track, and it’s not what you’d usually expect from me. I worked on it in the studio with Savi for a long time, and the original demo was really acoustic. Savi layed down the beats, and we re-worked it so it has a bigger pop production, but it’s still got a really warm sound. We’re so proud of how it’s turned out.”

Havana was also able to play out her Western fantasies in the incredible Technicolor video clip, which was directed by Australian creative powerhouse team Squared Division, who choreographed Britney Spears’ Las Vegas residency and have recently worked with Nick Jonasand Iggy Azalea.

The dark, sexy, quirky video was filmed in the iconic location of Pioneertown, a small town of 350 people, on a set where several early Western movies and TV shows were filmed. “I really have a thing for the desert,” Havana says, “and since there were so many elements in the song that lent themselves to the visual, it really was the perfect location. I was in my element!”

Although Havana is embracing the Wild West on ‘Battle Cry’, this is just part of her bigger plan to continue experimenting with bolder sounds. She says, “I still think I’ll release club records, I still DJ, I love hip-hop, but now I’m listening to different music now, and I’ve grown musically. I love challenging myself and I also love the mystery of not knowing what’s going to happen next.”

Although ‘Battle Cry’ is well out of her comfort zone, Havana’s big risk has paid off.
